Black strikes at the center with d5, challenging White's pawn on c4. White captures on d5 with the c pawn, opening up the center and gaining a central pawn majority. Black recaptures with the knight, developing a piece and maintaining a solid pawn structure. White plays Nf3, developing another knight and preparing to castle. Black continues with c5, challenging White's central pawn on d4. White reinforces the pawn with e3, solidifying the center and preparing to develop the light-squared bishop. Black plays e6, preparing to develop the dark-squared bishop and complete development.
