English Opening: Symmetrical Variation, Rubinstein Variation (variation 2)

This opening is a symmetrical variation where both sides develop their pieces harmoniously in the early stages of the game.

1. c4 2. c5 3. Nf3 4. Nf6 5. Nc3 6. d5 7. cxd5 8. Nxd5 9. g3 10. Nc6 11. Bg2 12. Nc7

In this variation, White aims to control the center with the move c4, mirroring Black's c5. The knights are developed to their natural squares, with the knight on f3 supporting the central pawn on d4. Black's knight on d5 puts pressure on White's center, while the pawn structure remains symmetrical. White fianchettoes the bishop to g2, preparing to castle kingside and exert pressure along the long diagonal. Black follows suit by fianchettoing their own bishop on the queenside. Both sides continue to develop their pieces, preparing for the middlegame. This opening often leads to a balanced position with chances for both sides.
